 CA control
Experiment # 2

  • E2.1 Name:

  • Power of LED

  • E2.2 Overview, purpose:

  • The experiment aims to explore the possibilities of making digital extensions for ARM mbed platforms to control high-power AC motors. At the end of the laboratory there will be detailed information about the way of realization of the active modules provided with galvanic separation for the programmable action of the systems powered by the 220V electric network, using the DigitalOUT and DigitalIn classes.

  • E2. 3 Resources:

  • PMbed Development Platform, 110 Volt AC Motor, Optotriac Siemens Model V23107, PC, USB-mbed Interconnect Cable, connection at www.mbed.org

  • E2.4 Program example:

  • Prototype program

  • E2.5 Experiment Run / Tracking Mode:

    • Analyze the CA connection scheme for the mbed platform shown below;

    • Check the connections correctly;
    • Examine how to make galvanic separation between the mbed and the AC motor;
    • Run the prototype program;
    • Solve the proposed problems.

  • E2.6 Proposed Issues:

  • 1. Make a program sequence that will activate the optocoupler only if the K1 microswitch is pressed for more than 0.5 sec.

    2. Perform a program sequence that will activate the optocoupler after 2 consecutive presses of K1.

    3. Make a program sequence that will enable / disable the optocoupler on consecutive presses of K2;

    4. Perform a program sequence that will activate the optocoupler after a K1 push and disables it after 2 minutes.

    5. Perform a program sequence that will activate the optocoupler after reset and disconnect it after 3 minutes.

  • E2.7 The experiment may be extended to:

  • Digital microcomputer control of industrial installations;
  • Making power plant control panels;
  • Realization of various working regimes for actuators;
  • Implementation of flexible programmable logic units (light panels, road traffic signaling, the control element being an optotriac.
